Through Compostica, Banka Bio is committed to reduce the environmental impact of single-use plastic.
We knew that many of the plastics currently in use are not biodegradable, meaning that they would take hundreds of years to break down in the environment. This poses a great environmental challenge for a hugely populated country like India.
When we met with DRDO team, which has developed a new type of plastic that was both strong and flexible, like traditional plastics, but that could also biodegrade in the environment, we knew this is a solution India needs immediately. This is a new type of polymer called Novel Biopolymer - a unique compound blend of BIOBASED / PLA / Additives/ Starch, which is made from plant-based materials, and has the ability to convert into compost over time.
We are thrilled by this innovation as we know that we have the potential to make a real difference in the world with our new line of product - Compostica BioPlastics. We are already working to scale up production of the bio compound at our Hyderabad plant, and we are ready to cater large orders to companies from all over India and beyond.

Our Story
Banka Bio Ltd. is a diverse group, with expertise ranging from sustainability, engineering, science, to business and policy. Our primary focus has been in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH) infrastructure so far as we are providing turnkey sanitation infrastructure solutions and services. Further, we provide sanitation operations and maintenance (O&M) services to one of the largest rail networks globally, the Indian Railways, and ensure a pleasant travel experience for millions of passengers every day.
Today, we are focused on finding ways to reduce the country's reliance on single-use plastics, which had become a major source of pollution and waste. We are opting for a new line of compostable bags that could be used in place of traditional petroleum-based plastics in a variety of applications. We are working with local businesses and communities to promote the use of biodegradable plastic.
For this mission, we launched Compostica, an innovative bioplastic technology patented by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the R&D arm of the Indian Ministry of Defense. We are a licensee (through the transfer of technology) and have partnered with DRDO for technology commercialization for large-scale deployment of Eco-friendly biodegradable plastic.
